Junior-Mid Developer, Online Safety systems (Plant Assessor)

February 2022 to November 2024
Pivoted back to software development after 11 years of teaching. Employed initially as a junior developer. Rapidly closed the skills gap and embraced web based technologies such as React, Typescript, Backend for Frontend architecture, REST and C#. Working with a collegial and very knowledgeable development team I was brought up to speed with the current state of play in the domain of Software as a Service (SaaS) subscription based application development. Tasks included:
  • front end web based development using React and Typescript;
  • the maintenance of code integrity and versioning using Gitlab;
  • peer assessing code when participating in Merge Requests;
  • creating and modifying back end API code in C#;
  • connecting to Azure table storage and the programming of Azure functions.

Learning Technology Coordinator, St Catherine’s Catholic College, Singleton NSW

Returned to full time teaching after a 20 year absence and was appointed Learning Technology Coordinator for the College. Reintroduced Stage 5 and 6 IT based subjects (Information and Software Technology for years 9 and 10 and Software Design and Development for years 11 and 12). Taught Technology (Mandatory) to years 7 and 8. The main focus of my role was to provide guidance and leadership with respect to the effective implementation and uptake of technology as it applies to the facilitation and augmentation of learning.

Working from home in Newcastle on a variety of projects for this Geotechnical consultancy. Became familiar with .Net framework (VB.Net, C#, ASPX) and SOAP technologies. Developed a bespoke add-on for Microsoft Outlook.

Tasks included creating and submitting JCL (Job Control Language) scripts to interrogate the Department’s Model 204 database to identify possible fraudulent claims. Some COBOL programming was undertaken as well.
